BAND HISTORY

For centuries Austrians had lived and worked in the mountain forest of Tyrol.  Because of their rugged and lonely existence there was a need for communications between the mountains and valleys as well as a need for entertainment to pass the long winter evenings.  Over the years a style of music and communication developed.  Using simple working tools and the talents of the working people cowbells, yodeling, alphorns, saws and carved wooden instruments all became part of the Tyrolean sound.

Thirty years ago a dream was born at Stratton Mountain, Vermont.  Emo Henrich, the director of the Stratton Ski School and a native of Austria, created the idea of ski instructors playing their musical instruments for Stratton skiers - The Stratton Mountain Boys.

Throughout the years Emo, and now Stefan Schernthaner selected band members for their devotion to and love of Austrian culture and traditions which they preserve with their music.  During the thirty years of Stratton Mountain Boys history there have been approximately forth Austrian musicians.
